FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

What Size should I choose:
Sizing is personal but is I usually recommend the following:

Measure your face( using a string or a measuring tape if you have it.start under your chin, in about a half inch and bring the string up to the bridge of  your nose.  If this measurement is closest to:

  • 6"- choose adult large
  • 5 - choose adult small
  • 4.5"- chose youth large
  • 4"- look at the Youth small or Toddler

Universal

Adult: this is a pleated mask with lots of flexibility.  It is not shaped and therefore doesn't conform to the face as much.  A Universal mask with ties is a great, one-size-fits-most option.

The are the most flexible in size as they allow for the most adjustment.

Approximate measurements:
  • 6" from under chin to resting place on the nose.
  • 8.5" across ( 4.25 " from ear to center seam.
  • 12" elastic ear loops/ 30" elastic be hind the head/ or 2 40" tie.

Adult Large:  great for larger adult faces, those with beards or ample jaw lines. My husband who is 6' 3" and a beard likes this mask.  It's also the size most requested my adults with rounder faces.

The are scaled to fit larger faces.

Approximate measurements:
  • 6" from under chin to resting place on the nose.
  • 10" across ( 5" from ear to center seam.
  • 12" elastic ear loops/ 30" elastic behind the head/ or 55" ties

Adult Small: great for teens and adults with smaller faces.  (This is the size I wear.  I'm 5'1".)
Approximate measurements:

  • 5" from under chin to resting place on the nose.
  • 9" across ( 4.5" from ear to center seam.
  • 9" elastic ear loops/ 28" elastic behind the head/ or 45" ties
Youth Large: for ages 7-12.  The are scaled to fit small faces.
Approximate measurements:
  • 4.5" from under chin to resting place on the nose.
  • 8" across ( 4" from ear to center seam.
  • 8" elastic ear loops/ 26" elastic behind the head/ or 40" ties

Youth Small
: Suggested for ages 3-6.
The are scaled to fit small faces.  It has more nose room than the toddler mask and offers a filter pocket and nosebar option.

Approximate measurements:
  • 4.5" from under chin to resting place on the nose.
  • 7" across ( 3.5" from ear to center seam.
  • 7" elastic ear loops/ 24" elastic behind the head/ or 40" ties
Toddlers: suggested for ages 2-3.
These are small masks without filter pockets or nose bars and the face shape is a little flatter.
Approximate measurements:
  • 4" from under chin to resting place on the nose.
  • 7" across ( 3.5" from ear to center seam.
  • 7" elastic ear loops/ 22" elastic behind the head/ or 40" ties

What type of closure should I choose?

    • Ties are great if you have short hair/ or wear your hair up, and if you're looking for something with long lasting comfort.  I choose ties when I'm heading to the grocery store or will be wearing the mask for more than a few minutes.

    • Elastic- Ear loops are the easiest to slide on and off.  I always error on the side of the elastic being too long. So you can adjust to fit your comfort by retying my square knot or just putting an overhand know at a good length for you. I recently added Adjuster beads to most masks !  yay! Just pinch and slide to the right tightness!

    • Elastic- Behind the Head: as described, the elastic is one continuous piece that goes through each side of the mask and around your head (above the ears and below your ears).  This is a great option for long wear, like ties, but is elastic and stretchy.  I recently added Adjuster beads to most masks !  yay! Just pinch and slide to the right tightness!

What is your nose bar or Nose Wire?

I hand cut and bend my nose bars from 18g flat coated aluminum.  The wire is jewelry grade and safe to be next to skin.  Is flexible enough to be easily molded but not too soft to lose it's shape.

To extend the life of your nose bar, I recommend you remove the nose bar before washing your masks.

Should I get a nose bar?

It is entirely up to you.  I don't wear glasses but I love the nose bar.  It helps me feel like the mask is more sealed to my face and that it will stay put better.  If you do wear glasses, I highly recommend the nose bar.  It helps with blocking your breath from steaming up your glasses.  Glasses wearers are raving that it dramatically reduced their fogged glasses and they highly recommend my nose bars!
